In 2021 a Dutch consortium consisting of KEC, Gate2, Aratos Systems, Avans Hogeschool and NLR performed a Feasibility Study on Situational Awareness Missions based on High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS). These platforms fly at stratosphere height and can fly patterns or hover around a location of interest, offering unique opportunities for Earth observation.
The consortium launched a new initiative to set up a Situational Awareness Systems and Services Development Center (SASC). SASC will support the development, testing, simulation and training of situational awareness systems and services (both up and downstream). SASC will focus on both existing data sources (e.g. satellites, drones) and new ones like HAPS.
As a preparatory action for the center, a round table discussion session is organised on July the 1st, 2022, with participation of international experts and representatives of end user organisations that may benefit from future situation awareness products and services based on HAPS as a new data source.
The round table session will be on the topic of situational awareness applications based on HAPS platforms. The round table session will start with introductory presentations, followed by a round table discussion with all participants. Conclusions will be reported and shared with all participants.
