In the renewed system of Aratos Earth Observation Data Platform the renewal of the Burnt Area index is added. Burnt Area accounts for burn scars, surfaces which have been sufficiently affected by fire to display significant changes in the vegetation cover (destruction of dry material, reduction or loss of green material) and in the ground surface (temporarily darker because of ash). Moreover, they give temporal information on the fire season.
The maps of Burnt Area are recognized as an Essential Climate Variable (ECV) by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS).
We continue to innovate with space technologies since 2005.
